The themes of the film are honor, loyalty, and the most important one, the FAMILY. Family gatherings (weddings, christenings, etc) are all given importance. There are over 50 scenes with food in the film; showing that how important it is for families to bond over a good meal.
The film won multiple Oscar Awards; best picture, actor, and screenplay. The film also won the same awards, including best original score and director in the Golden Globe Awards as well. In addition, AFI has ranked The Godfather 2nd on their list of best films of all time. One of the Best Known Movie Characters - The Godfather
By Shawna S. Ruppert
Consistently rated among the top films made of all time, Godfather trivia should be interesting to anyone with an interest in classic films. Most recently, to show how highly it is regarded, the AFI ranked it only behind Citizen Kane on one of their best movie lists. The film was based on a book written by Mario Puzo, and tells the story of the Corleone mob family.
The Godfather, the novel, was one of the most successful novels of all time. The film achieved similar success and recognition, and many feel that was in a large part due to the participation of Puzo in the crafting of the screen play. A Godfather quiz shows that the film was co-wrote by Puzo, Francis Ford-Coppola (the director of the film) and Robert Towne.
Godfather trivia is like a who's who of the greatest film stars of the sixties and seventies. Made in 1972, this film employed the very best in the business of the time. For many, the highlight of the film was the performance of legendary film actor Marlon Brando as Don Corleone. He won the best actor Oscar for his performance. Robert Duvall, Al Pacino, and James Caan were all also nominated for Best supporting actor. Talia Shire also co-starred in the film, she is Coppola's sister.
A Godfather quiz will reveal that the film also spawned two sequels. The Godfather Part II was almost as well received as the first. It won the Best Picture Oscar, and also netted Robert De Niro an Oscar for Best Supporting Actor. De Niro was clearly the most important addition to previous cast, most of whom reprised their original roles. The Godfather Part II is particularly distinguished for its success as a sequel. Few sequels have performed as well, or been as critically well received.
The third part in the Godfather series was unfortunately not as well received as the first two, and is generally considered a failure when compared to the first two installments in the series. The third movie was released in 1990, and did feature some, but not all, of the previous cast. Al Pacino returned, and the film was primarily about the end of his character, Michael Corleone's journey. Many feel that the failure of the film was due largely to Robert Duvall refusing to return to portray Tom Hagen once more. He refused the role over salary disparity between himself and Al Pacino.

Summary:The article starts of with the writer recognizing the film for being 2nd, behind Citizen Kane, in AFI’s list of Best films of all time. The writer mentions that the novel The Godfather, by Mario Puzo, was also very successful. The writer, like every other admirer of the film, praises Marlon Brando’s performance. She then talks about the sequels of the films and compliments the success of The Godfather 2, as only “few sequels have performed as well, or been as critically well received.” She does however feels sorry for the 3rd saga in the series for it was not well received by the neither critics, nor the public. She blames this on Robert Duvall’s ego towards Al Pacino as Mr. Pacino was making much more for the film as he was, and therefore decided not to return.
Relation of the Article to the Screening.
As written in the article, The Godfather was the stepping stone when it comes to “mob” type films. The Godfather easily provides all the guidelines it takes in making a mob film. In fact, it is very easy to say that most, if not all, mob films take something from The Godfather. Next, the writer is on the point when she states that Marolon Brando’s character and performance was “legendary’. Never have I ever seen a character like this. The way he carries himself, the way he delivers his point across, the way this old man intimidates everyone; these are things I find appealing as well. Therefore, Marlon Brando receiving an Oscar for best Actor does not come as a surprise. Critique of the film
The film is slow and long. But, if one can make it out of the first fifteen minutes, they will have a treat waiting for them. The blood, the gore, the evil; all are depicted in a very appealing way, something that out of the grain of its time. Never before did audience have faith in a man whose job was to intimidate the public through criminal activities, never before did the public want an innocent man to turn evil before, and never will we ever get to see a performance that is so heart clenching. All this, and more, was all made possible by this film. The film gets the recognition it does because it brought something new and controversial to the mainstream. To this day, it inspires filmmakers that are making “mob’ films. Personally, I can admit that the film is confusing, and I’m sure there are still plenty things about the film that I’m confused about. But, this is what is great about the film; the film is complex. This complexity is what attracts me to this film; also the dark nature of the plot. I have already included this film in my Christmas wishlist, and if there is anyone out there who wishes to pursue a film career in creative filmmaking, then The Godfather would be a film that they would want to memorize.
